Choral Music Honors in Arlington

Arlington, Vt.,--The music program at Arlington Memorial High School & Middle School has been celebrating students’ many choral honors this academic year.

In November, ten Arlington students auditioned and six were accepted into the Southern Vermont District Chorus, an elite chorus of more than 100 students from all over southern Vermont.   These students perform at the Southern Vermont District Festivals which were held in early February at Rutland Middle School and at Green Mountain College on March 7 and 8.  Arlington students accepted into the Southern Vermont District Chorus are Heather Brinson, Eliza Farley, Hannah Poulette (middle school level), Samantha Boyd, Michael Cervini and Selene Clark (high school level).

In December, five students auditioned at the highly competitive All New England Music Festival.  Sophomore Dillon Hawley and Junior Cameron Ray were accepted into the All New England Chorus, in which 250 students from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut perform at venues throughout the region.

In January, five students sang at the All State Music Festival auditions, and three were chosen for the Vermont All State Chorus.  Arlington’s Michael Cervini, Dillon Hawley and Cameron Ray will perform with 200 high school singers from throughout the state.

Arlington Music and Theater teacher Patti Cody is delighted that students are willing to audition at such a competitive level.  “These are elite choruses, and our students understand how competitive the experience will be.  I am so proud of their accomplishments, and I feel lucky to be a part of a music program that is so well supported by the community and administration.”

Arlington Memorial High School Principal Kerry Csizmesia offered his congratulations to the students.  “We are delighted for our students’ success.  With the addition of the new Mack Performing Arts Center & Wes Carlson Studio for Dance and Theater and our new AP Music Theory course, we show students who love music, dance and theater that we believe in their potential and that we support their efforts 100 percent.”

For more information about the Arlington music program, contact Cody at codyp@bvsu.org or 802.375.2589, extension 149.  You can visit the AMHS website at www.arlingtonmemorialhs.org.  The Arlington School District mission is to create a safe, caring and respectful environment of academic excellence where students are uniquely challenged to reach their potential at the K-5, 6-8 and 9-12 levels.
