Arlington Announces Valedictorian and Salutatorian

 

Arlington, Vt.,--Arlington Memorial High School (AMHS) Principal Kerry Csizmesia announced the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the graduating Class of 2008.  Kira Personnette received valedictory honors, and Britni Hawley earned salutatory honors.  Personette and Hawley will address their classmates during the AMHS graduation ceremony, Saturday, June 14, at 12 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.

            An academic standout, Personette is a member of the National Honor Society and has been named to the AMHS honor roll for the past four years.  She served on the Student Council for three years and was a member of the varsity soccer and softball teams for four years.  Personette enjoys community service and has volunteered with the Project Against Violence Encounters and Happy Days Playschool summer lunch program.  In addition, she serves on the Sandgate Methodist Church advisory board as an assistant auditor.

During her high school career, Personette has earned numerous achievement awards including the UVM Green and Gold Award, Russell Sage Book Award, St. Michael’s College Book Award and academic awards in science, AP statistics and French.  Personette has been accepted to Brandeis University, St. Lawrence University, Ursinus College and the University of Vermont.  She plans to study occupational therapy at Ursinus in Pennsylvania.  Personnette is the daughter of Kathleen and Douglas Personette of Arlington.

An outstanding student-athlete, Hawley has achieved honor roll recognition numerous times.  She was elected to the Student Council for four years serving in many capacities including as president.  Hawley is a member of the yearbook staff, the DUO community service organization and volunteers with the youth basketball league.  She is a four-year varsity player for the basketball, cross-country and softball teams. 

            Hawley received acceptance at Newberry College, Robert Morris College, St. John’s University, and St. Michael’s College.  She plans to study Sports Management at St. John’s University in New York.  Hawley is the daughter of Donn and Donna Griswold of Arlington.
