Welcome to Arlington Memorial, a beautiful school that is quite special and unique to other public schools.
Arlington Memorial High School and Middle School is a 6-12 school steeped in tradition with an established reputation as one of the
top academic achieving high schools in Vermont and across the United States. Arlington was recognized as a Silver Medal School by
U.S. News & World Report in 2007 which ranked Arlington in the top 3% of schools nation-wide, and as a Bronze Medal Winner in
2008 which put Arlington in the top 9% of schools nationally for the outstanding academic successes of our students. These honors,
recognizing the outstanding academic achievements of our students, were based on state-administered test scores and the number
of seniors who took Advanced Placement classes and achieved a three or above on those tests. Four years ago our school began a
campaign to “raise the bar” with our goal clearly designed to increase our students’ academic performance and preparation by
increasing the number of credits each needed to graduate, requiring each graduate to demonstrate mastery of eight technology
competencies, and requiring all graduates to perform a minimum number of community service hours.
Arlington is a public school that has benefited from a great deal of community interest and support, and has drawn many similarities
and comparisons to that of private schools. With relatively small class sizes and numerous award-winning programs to choose from,
students attending Arlington have many options when pursuing a program of study that includes 8 Advanced Placement classes, an
Accelerated Academy for our brightest middle school students, a Culinary Arts and Technical Education program, and five foreign
languages (French, Spanish, Chinese, Latin, & Sign Language). Arlington offers all of this and more to meet the diverse needs and
interests of its students. In addition to our outstanding academic programs, Arlington Memorial offers our students many extra-
curricular activities to choose from including team and individual sports, Dance, Chorus & Band, Yearbook, Student Council and many
more.
Arlington has a highly regarded veteran professional teaching staff known for their expertise, and caring, individualized approach to
assisting students. The faculty offers a mentoring program for all students and after-school assistance on a daily basis. The success
rate for our students is very high, as is evidenced by the fact that 99% of our students passed all of their classes last year. Arlington
also has one of the highest graduation rates in the state, and most of our graduates go on to further their education (86% of the class
of 2009 have applied to colleges) attending fine schools and programs.
Arlington Memorial continues to be an outstanding choice for students who want a well-rounded education and are motivated to excel
in their academic pursuits. It is a special and unique school with a culture unlike any around. If you would like more information on
